PTDC witnesses 100 per cent increase in domestic tourists
Wednesday, September 03, 2014 – Islamabad—Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Managing Director Chaudhry Kabir Ahmad Khan said Tuesday that a 100 percent increase in number of domestic tourists has been witnessed during the current season as compare to last year. In an exclusive interview to APP MD Chaudhry Kabir Ahmad Khan said that this year PTDC was expecting 50 percent increase more than last year’s 30 percent.
He said, rather this year the percentage was witnessed to 60 percent which was a 100 percent to last year’s 30 percent This year a comprehensive security plan was made to promote the sense of protection among the domestic and foreign tourists, he added.
The Managing Director(MD) PMDC said that on the directions of the Prime Minister, PTDC had decided to initiate certain steps to facilitate tourists and enhance the revenue generation of the Corporation by taking initiatives of security provision. “The step will help make the PTDC a self-sustaining organisation” he added. He also stated that PTDC has re-launched its summer tour packages and announced special rates for hotels, motels and resorts situated in the most tourist-attractive places in the country.
He added that PTDC had also started bus services from June Ist, escorted with armed guards, to Naran. “Despite the negative media projection by the international media, PTDC achieved its targets to promote domestic tourism, Kabir added.
He said that PTDC has increased security at all resorts including Murree, Galiyat, Ayubia, Kaghan, Swat Chitral, Kalash, Shandur. “Elaborate measures were being taken to provide security to the foreign tourists visiting different parts of the country” he added.
Kabir Ahmed Khan further informed that current government was making earnest efforts to promote tourism sector and to reinstate the soft image of the country across the globe. Provincial governments and concerned district management was in a close contact with PTDC to ensure the security of the tourists, he said.
The General Manager (GM) PTDC, Sheikh Fayyaz who was present during the interview said that tourist traffic to Murree, Galiyat, Ayubia, Kaghan and Swat valley have considerably increased during 2013 and 2014, while Pakistani tourists are now visiting new destinations like Gilgit, Hunza, Fairy Meadows, Rama Lake, Chitral,Kalash and Shandur valleys as well. He said PTDC had re-launched summer tour packages and announced special rates for its hotels, motels and resorts situated in most attractive tourists place in the country. —APP
