Below is a testimony in memory of Late Shams-ul-Kamal
by Shakir Hussain
Shamsul Kamal was born on 25th March, 1990 in Khana Abad, Hunza. He started his early education at Diamond Jubilee School Khana Abad and remained there till the end of eight class. He was among the first ten students of Khana Abad Hunza who got the distinction to get admission in one of the prestigious institutions of Gilgit-Baltistan (Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Gilgit).
Kamal vigorously started his studies at AKHSS Gilgit in 2004 as pre-ninth student and completed his college studies in pre-engineering in 2009. He was very diligent, hard-working and active student. His grades were always very near to his greatness. During his time at AKHSS, he took very active part in community services. He rendered marvelous honorary services to REC Zulfiqarabad Gilgit and REC Prince Colony. He was very punctual in scouting and served the Zulfiqarabad Boys Scouts for many years.
Like many friends, I was lucky to have Kamal in the very close circle of friendship. He was not only a best friend but a family member as well. We shared so many good moments at my home, in our residential area and at the school and college as well. Kamal lost his father in an early age but the good supervision of his mom and his uncle always kept him motivated to achieve his goals. Despite so many hurdles, he never lost his courage but to work hard and move forward. In September, 2009 Kamal after completing his studies from AKHSS Gilgit, got admission at Karakuram International University in the Department of Physics.
Later in early 2010 he left for Karachi and took admission at Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology in the Department of Civil Engineering. During his time at Sir Syed University, he not only vigorously pursued his studies but kept himself involved in key community and social activities. He served the Khana Abad Students Organization very actively and dedicatedly as one its founding members.
The magnificent time of Kamal came to an end at Sir Syed last year in 2014 and he collected his B.Sc Civil Engineering Degree early this year. A week ago after updating an excited status he left for Gilgit to see his Mom as a proud son and a Civil Engineer. He spent a day with his family and met a sever bike accident on the other day. He was admitted at CMH Gilgit.
