District Jail, Grain godown, University campus and main Mastuj road in great thread of river.

CHITRAL: Surface of water has been raised due to melting of snow on mountains in peak hot season at Chitral. As result main road of Mastuj, Booni and Shandor, district Jail, Grain store (godown) professional development center of Aga Khan university, Danin officer colony, houses and hundreds of acres land are in great thread of Chitral River. The River have erosion main road and it reached near to main gate of district jail. As well as heavy trucks and loaded vehicles are weakened the road condition rapidly.
Superintendent district Jail Riaz Ahmad told this scribe that river has cut the road and due to erosion of soil it reach near main compound wall and main gate of district jail. District jail can be washed away any time if river was not diverted he added. Prominent lawyer Abdul Wali Advocate said that we time and again requested Communication and Works (C&W) department for construction of protection bund and wall on Danin side to divert the river but they did nothing. As a result most parts of main road was damaged by river and now this is very risky road for loaded vehicles. So many graves were washed away by flood from grave yard at Danin.
S. Fayaz district food controller also concerned over the erosion of main road which is great thread for main grain store (of wheat) situated on the river bank. He said that our supply will start in the month of September but due to erosion of road it will not be possible to supply wheat to upper Chitral and all sale points of the entire district if main road was damaged. He also confirmed that our main grain store, ware house is also in great thread of river and any time it can be washed away by heavy flood.
A local land lord of Danin said that we requested district administration again and again for protection of our houses, property and cultivable land but nothing was done and as a result hundreds of acres land damaged by river erosion and standing crops were damaged.
Local people expressed their fear that if the river was not diverting timely it might damage district jail, main grain store, officer colony, hundreds of houses and land. They demanded from the provincial government for construction of protection bund on emergency basis to save this precious property.
