[Education] OEC Expos 2016 Phunder
Gilgit-Baltistan(PR, July 11): OEC conducted its first series of expos for 2016 in Phunder. This expo was funded by different sponsors notably, it was powered by Central Asia Institute(CAI), KNR Pvt Ltd, National Bakers and many other donors. The first venue for the expo became the local library of the Shamaran valley and the number of participants for this first expo were more than 15 ranging from 9th class to second year. In addition to this, elder members and representatives of the community councils were present too.
The program was formally commenced by the introduction of OEC and its aims. OEC’s reason to conduct this expo was delivered to the participants. Its leading sponsors, particularly Central Asia Institute CAI’s mission “to empower local communities through literacy and education, especially for girls, to promote peace through education, and to convey the importance of these activities globally” was acknowledged. A documentary made by CAI was shown to the students to give them an idea of how important is education and how CAI is striving to accomplish its mission such as providing scholarships to needy and deserving students.
Students representing different universities across Pakistan and abroad gave presentations to the students about their respective institutes and disciplines. The presentations included information about scholarships, criteria and procedure to applying for the universities. After presentations, a discussion session was held where the students interacted with the speakers and collected useful data for their future plans. Also, a mind refreshing and IQ enhancing game called Fizz buzz was conducted for the young participants to refresh them. They enjoyed it a lot and certificates were given to the winners. Moreover, students were also informed about the OEC IFL scholarship for those who cannot afford their studies and the representatives of local council were asked to identify and forward the names of such students to OEC. Likewise, students were informed about the CAI’s scholarships. At the end of this session president of the local council, Shamaran expressed his gratitude towards OEC for their work.
After the first session, team OEC left for Gulaghmuli for the next expo. The second session was attended by more than 30 students. This session included an introduction to OEC, career counselling session on different fields of study and some fun activities. OEC’s effort for educational awareness was encouraged by the representatives of the community.
The last session was conducted at LRS School (new Phander). It was attended by more than 50 students. Career counselling, OEC’s objectives and CAIs scholarships were addressed to the students. Local elders were told to identify those students who needed financial assistance. The session culminated successfully on 3 July.
Due to the mutual collaboration and teamwork of team Expo, the goals set were achieved and earned the exalting appreciation and gratitude of the students.
Organization for educational change has been working to bring an educational change in the region of Gilgit-Baltistan since 2009. Ever since its inception, OEC has been conducting expos and other events throughout the region. These expos aim to guide, motivate and inform young students regarding their academics and careers.
