Let’s fight pollution; KVO observes anti-pollution day at Khunjerav top
SOST: KVO observes anti-pollution day at Khunjerav top (elevation 4,680 metres or 15,350 feet) Gilgit Baltistan – Pakistan.
An anti-pollution awareness day observed on Saturday, 4 August at Khunjerav pass.
The event was organized by Khunjerav Villager organization KVO.
Members of civil society, office bearers of KVO and youth of Gojal took part in the campaign.
Khunjerav pass is one of the hot tourism spot in Gilgit Baltistan.
Due to influx of tourism at Khunjerav and lack of waste management system, the area is getting polluted.
It is worth mentioning that the area is protected for wildlife and biodiversity (National Park). Beside the impacts of pollution on human, the area is turning unsafe for the endangered species found at Khunjerav pass.
Earlier this year Khunjerav Villager Organization KVO introduced a biodegradable bag for tourists visiting Khunjerav to collect the waste, but due to lake of awareness the tourists avoid to use those bags and dust bins and damp the wrappers/garage everywhere in the Park.
