our special correspondent: Sost, Gojal: Last year the government of Gilgit Baltistan has approved drinking water supply project costing 600 million for Sost town.
Sost, In spite of one of the most revenue generating town in Gilgit Baltistan is lacking the facality of safe drinking water. During last 10 years two projects of water supply was approved by GB government, but both the projects failed due to corruption of contractors and some local opportunists. This time again private contractor has obtained the contract of the Shishkater-Sost water supply project. They have started installing the 6 inch pipes along the Karakoram Highway; whereas it has been reported that the pace of the work is too slow and substandard. The contractor is breaching the standards. Pipes have been kept on open surface along the KKH at different location which may easily damage due to landslide and the heavy vehicles moving on KKH.

None of the local or government authorities are paying attention toward this mismanagement happening under their nose.

He said, this project was proposed by Village organization Hussainabad Sost and Town Management Societies, Village Organization Sost and Nazimabad. Now this is the responsibility of the head of those village level organizations to closely monitor this important project, for this project on behalf of the local population.
Senior member further said, we expect the authorities of district administration, GB-PWD and head of VOs to take notice of this mishandle which may result the loss of 600 million public money. Photo By www.facebook.com/hunzamountainland of Shujaat Ali
