[Opinion] Education on both sides
By: Iqbal Rumi
Islam preaches education as the fundamental principal for equality and modesty. Allah blessed the messengers with wisdom and knowledge and raised them in different communities in different ages. With the mission to guide peoples and teach them knowledge and books of Allah (Al-Qur’an 4:54, 4:113, 12:22, 21:74, 27:15, 62:2).
It’s not the fact that modernization is worst but eliminating the remaining half, which ultimately put burden on society. Adjoining both the sector makes the difference. Moving the upper stream of GB signifies the importation of education. The students with mental capabilities are driving with insufficient resources. That is what counts!
Wooden blocks, chalks, two rooms, open end- no boundary wall, unseen washroom and water tap, one book two students. It must be the stage set for poor. Visualize the fundamental right of enrollment in school with higher modest education at feasible environment for students.
In contrast, green over coat, neat and furnished room with environmental issues- energy sever, white boards, and for security-boundary walls, keeping hygiene- filter water, soaps at washroom. The impression view of elites minds. Clarifying the mental level of being super human or identifying them ultramodern.
It doesn’t show a complexity of society of mankind but illustrate the priorities of our society. It signifies our optimism toward equality in the line of education for students. We are optimistic that one day will be remembered for our greatness- as whole. Building blocks at city level make it easy for individualism but the collectivism effort distract. It’s because the focus shifts from basic right to luxurious.
“Acquire knowledge even if you have to travel to China” (Baihaqi). Now a day, we provide our children to travel through with soft music, pleasant smell at vehicle with the facility of warmness. However, from birth mind reflects towards division of mankind. On the other hand, walk for miles from home at different centigrade coping without stove and AC at class room.
Isn’t a realistic approach for students to learn in eco sound environment? However, realizing the investment on oil, wood and stoves on big wig school estimate the overall investment position. This doesn’t matter; probably we think, two month vocation legitimizes the issues. Alas!
“The death of a tribe is easier in comparison to the death of a learned one” (Bukhari & Muslim). While focusing on the root learning and developing the ability of Learnedness, are two main categories, where book are the necessitate apparatus. An old uncovered, half pages lost while remaining filled with written script creates a mess for student to learn things. Replicating these memorized courses on tablet or takhti. In contrast, Samsung tablet attack with WiFi as well as printing assignments on white 80 gm. pages. The cause is not that we need to progress but how we are devising the advancement.
Emerson said that, ‘The secret in education lies in respecting the student”. So, the Gilgit Baltistan government and NGO’s assemble several priorities to catch the mountain tip or to slide down from the above. Choice is again yours!
First, successfully completing quality primary and secondary education, including: improved and more equitable access to education. Such as establishing proper environmental building and providing the supporting equipment-desk, chair etc. In addition to that, to offer the basic environmental necessities such as the fulfillment of eco- building, hygienic kit, washroom at distance and filter warm water.
Second, improving the quality of curriculum, reformed textbooks and learning materials that also be in reach of students at rural areas. Reach of proper books and tools for reading and writing are core for education. Moreover, access towards the availability of extra curriculum equipment.
Lastly, restructuring of governance and management at educational departments will provide accessibility of students with the minds of line mangers and officio.
Aristotle: The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet. So, hope for the best future of our region students are competing in national and international level, while not having accessibility to the fundamental educational environment. Salute!
In conclude, the saying of father of nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah that: “Come forward as servants of Islam, organize the people economically, socially, educationally and politically and I am sure that you will be a power that will be accepted by everybody.”
