CHITRAL:The tourism industry generates substantial economic benefits to both host countries and tourists’ home countries. Especially in developing countries, one of the primary motivations for a region to promote itself as a tourism destination is the expected economic improvement.
According to the World Tourism Organization, 698 million people traveled to a foreign country in 2000, spending more US$ 478 billion. International tourism receipts combined with passenger transport currently total more than US$ 575 billion – making tourism the world’s number one export earner, ahead of automotive products, chemicals, petroleum and food.
But the situation in our country is different. PTDC Motel/Hotel Chitral was constructed at Beermoshlasht mountain some 15 years ago but it is still close and even did not inaugurated. It is note-worthy to mention herewith that this is million of rupees loss to the government treasury. It shows poor management and planning of Tourism Department and they even could not looked after of their own assets how they have to promote tourism in the country. PTDC Hotel/Motel Chitral is showing a ruin.
It is also a slap on the face of the tourism department if the hotel is close for almost years. The concern authorities should take immediate notice of it and Chitral is culturally rich area of the country, in the past tourists from all over the world were coming to Chitral but due to the negligence of the concern department the ratio of foreign tourists is negligible now.
