Zaib R Mir: Art of Zardozi Embroidery of Gilgit Baltistan
Sost Today (Monitoring Desk): Zaib R Mir is an embroidery artist. She is originally from Gilgit-Baltistan and a Canadian citizen. Zaib’s mission is to promote and revive the fading cultural heritage of Gilgit Baltistan, to collect the antique embroideries, and cultural pieces of Gilgit Baltistan.
She represents the cultural and arts shows of Pakistan, especially Gilgit Baltistan at international forums and encourages the needle artists and artisans of Gilgit Baltistan to make and preserve the old traditional embroidery, knitting crochet Qalami, zardozi and iraghi embroidery.
Currently, she is working on the preservation of the art of Zardozi embroidery, traditional woolen socks, gloves, sweaters, and crochet items. And exploring these items and aims to find the roots to cultural heritage and linkage and similarities in different parts of the world.
Zaib has represented Gilgit Baltistan and Pakistan at Muscat international cultural night 2016, Sultan Qaboos University, Pakistan cultural exhibition organized by Pakistan embassy Muscat Oman, Egyptian cultural festival Muscat Oman 2016, American British Academy Muscat Oman, International cultural night 2016 and International cultural event “ One language different cultures“ 2017 and won the best stall award.
